Des forces du désordre :
VIOLENT CRIME incidents rose to 315,800 in June-September 2005, up 4% on 2004. And that doesn't even include the government extracting money from its citizens by force. But it fell dramatically in the fourth quarter, with serious violent crime 21% lower than in 2004, woundings down 14% and overall violent crime down 11%.
Why the fall ? Plainly, it is a result of the liberalization of pub opening hours - as any one who had read Douglas Mason's ASI report Time to Call Time would know. Mason charted the benefits of flexible (even 24-hour) pub opening in his native Scotland. Such as the fact that the police were no longer overstretched trying to control crowds of drinkers all leaving the pubs at exactly the same time. Why did it take English politicians so long to wake up to the obvious evidence ?
